CEDAR KNOLLS, NJ – January 25, 2008 –
The Artech-Dalmia Center for Information Technology at Rajasthan,
India was inaugurated earlier this month. The state-of-the-art facility, located at the prestigious
all-woman Banasthali University, provides women with the training in software, hardware and
communications technologies necessary to obtain Bachelors and Masters Degrees in the IT field. The
goal of the Center is to empower women with cutting-edge technology skills.
“The partnership between Artech and Banasthali, two women-centric organizations,
will go a long way towards the achievement of these goals,” said Mr. M. H. Dalmia, Chairman of the
Board at Artech India.
The Center rivals other facilities in India and is comparable to any
in the world. A Gigabit LAN and high bandwidth Internet connectivity support numerous IT labs for
specialized computer networking, communications, software engineering, VLSI design and multimedia.
Fully-equipped video-conferencing, high-tech lecture and library facilities enhance the learning
experience with the use of real world, practicable technologies. The Center’s programs range from
IT research and development to internal infrastructure initiatives such as computerizing other
departments throughout the university.
“Artech’s new partnership with Banasthali successfully brings two leaders together,”
Ajay Poddar, Artech’s Executive Vice President said, “one in education and one in IT. Women
throughout India will now have the foundation to develop equal footing in the IT arena.”
Ms. Ranjini Poddar, Artech President, is an adamant supporter of
women-empowering programs. She is active in several supplier diversity and IT industry
organizations and mentors other women business owners. She is a member of the Women Business
Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC)
and has received such honors as: Enterprising Women of the Year Award (2008); Finalist
for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year® Award (2001 & 2007); New Jersey’s Best 50
Women in Business (2006); Women Presidents Organization (WPO) Fast 50 Award (2005).
“The women’s professional environment in India is rapidly progressing and we’re
excited about being part of that movement.” Ms. Poddar said. “I feel a real sense of
achievement, knowing that Artech is supporting advancement programs for women overseas as well as
here in the US.”
The Banasthali University was founded in 1935 and is located at
Rajasthan, just under 200 miles from Delhi. The student body totals approximately 8,000 women
pursuing undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate education. The campus spans 850 acres with
22 hostels and a capacity of housing 438 students. There are also more than 220 fully equipped
staff quarters including a Working Women’s Hostel with more than 80 seats.
